JMatt & I were talking about setting a day of the month to plan on getting together. It looks like the last Wednesday of the month would be the best. So the next two will be June 25th and July 30th - both at Old Chicago. Look to show up around 7 PM. If you weren’t one of the folk that was at the last gathering, just look for me (Andy):
This is the first time I’ve done any sort of thing like this. The overall concept seemed informal, so it didn’t take much convincing from JMatt. He has way more experience with this sort of thing. Anyway - thanks to the urging of Warner Onstine (founder, president, leader, organizer - for the Tucson Java User Group - I don’t know which he’s currently doing, but he’s been all of them) and JMatt, I went ahead and setup a Google Group for Tucson Startup Drinks. It’ll be a nice way to bug the two of us if for some reason the meetings aren’t getting scheduled or we’re behaving in some other lax, lazy manner. The group is public and anyone can join (below is a link to the group page).

Speaking of informal gatherings, I’m way beyond my self-set deadline for getting out the alpha of Gigism. So, I’m looking to do some coding at Epic Cafe on Tuesday nights from (around) 6:30 to 9:30. If anyone just wants to stop by and chat or code or you want to show off something (which is encouraged any time) — I’ll be there (again, look for the guy pictured above - though I’ve shaved my beard). I’ve dubbed it Coffee & Code in the groups discussion (which I know is cheeky and lame).
I should get back on the topic…
I’m also looking for local groups to contact and let them know about us. I’ve pestered the members of Tucson JUG a fair bit. I was going to contact people from Tucson Free UNIX Group (TFUG). I know they have a “happy hour” the 1st & 3rd Thursday of the month. Also, I don’t know anyone active in - but I know there is an active Tucson .NET User Group. Being that I still dabble in “the evil”* (and JMatt’s hip deep in it) - I’ll try to get in touch with them too. The point of this rambling gibberish is that I was hoping that if anyone reads this and has suggestions of who else we should contact or where to post the dates of gatherings - please comment.
Also… the August gathering would be the 26th - any suggestions on a location? Gentle Ben’s? Oregano’s? Risky Business? Thunder Canyon Brewery?
* disclaimer: I taught C#/.NET classes at University of Arizona for about 5 years. I’m merely joking about Microsoft and .NET being “evil” - I’m not trying to rile anyone up.
JMatt and I would like to thank everyone for coming out to the Auld Dubliner last Tuesday night. It was our first gathering/meeting/whatever-we-should-call-it, and we had a solid turnout. Thanks!
I’d like to offer a congrats to Grant Hawkes. Grant’s startup HawkeSoft went live with its’ first product, EZ SQL Restore, the day before of our get-together (May 5).
We’re gunning for our next “meeting” to be Wednesday June 4th or June 11th. If you have a preference, just comment and let us know.
The location is still undecided - but Old Chicago and Oregano’s have been tossed out as suggestions. It’s an election year, so voicing your opinion should come easy!
Thanks again - Andy
